MGM duplicating Zenfolio groups

Hi,

I have recently started to use MGM and I uploaded a series of scanned photos to Zenfolio without any issues.

I then decided to allow MGM to manage my "My Pictures" folder by synchronising that folder on my PC under the All Photos group at Zenfolio.

My ISP imposes usage allowances but overnight uploads do not count toward that so I set MGM off uploading "My Pictures" overnight and then in the morning I cancelled the remaining uploads so as not to eat into my usage limit.

The following evening I did the same again expecting MGM to pick up where it left off as I assumed it would not re-upload any photos that were already uploaded to Zenfolio.

Much to my surprise not only did MGM start to re-upload the same photos as the night before but it also created duplicate Zenfolio groups to put them in.

Is this the expected behaviour?

If a group already existed at Zenfolio I would have expected MGM to use it and if a photo with the same file name existed in that group I would expect it to treat it as a duplicate and not upload it again but it is certainly not working like that.

I read recently on ([http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/zenfolio|Jeffrey Friedl's blog] (He does the lightroom export plugin):
{CODE(wrap="1",ln="0",wiki="0",rtl="0",ishtml="0")}20111214.172
Zenfolio added video-upload support today, so I've updated the plugin to allow video.{CODE}
But the feature request at uservoice.com has not had any activity. ([http://zenfolio.uservoice.com/forums/75695-feature-suggestions/suggestions/2296860-api-must-support-videos-to-enable-aperture-lr-plu|link])
So, I guess this is a conditional feature request:
If the API now allows it, can video upload be implemented in MGM?

Thanks,
Eric

I'm very tired now of fighting with MGM. It's a fantastic idea, but I can't seem to get it to work properly.
I do batch uploads, and I almost always get the following error:
07/01/12 00:42:33 ERROR: ERROR: Error on uploading image file: C:\Users\G\Desktop\Photo4me\Scenes\_MG_6521.jpg. Reason: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.

So what I started doing was setting the synchronise operation to start, then cancelling the pending uploads, then deleting them from the list, which leaves 4 images uploading. Sometimes 1, and occasionally 2 images will upload, but the rest will not and have the above error.

There is nothing wrong with my connection, it never drops. In the last hour I have manually uploaded 9 images to one site, and using MGM, uploaded 4 and failed with another 5.
There is clearly a problem here but I'm not sure what it is. Do other people suffer similar problems?

Sorry, I know this is free, but it's appallingly clumsy to use.
It's taking a long time to get used to how it works, which is nothing like how you'd expect.
Today I found that there is no explanation as to why an upload has failed. And if you inadvertently set away a successful upload again, you can't cancel it!
This has cost me lots of wasted bandwidth.
I do wonder if it's worth continuing to use as it is so clumsy and unintuitive.
I'm sorry I don't want to be mean as I know you don't charge, but I'd rather pay for something that works than get something for free that is so difficult to operate.
Why is there no drag and drop between windows too?

I was curious to learn if a sync takes place, and one wants to only add/change the metadata - is this possible? Or does the entire image/gallery have to be changed? (Presumably deleted and re-uploaded)

From what I've read, (nothing is ever deleted) an existing image or gallery with NO metadata may not be possible to overwrite with one that has metadata - simply based on the fact that "nothing is ever deleted".

Sorry to sound confused by this.

Also does "permissions" info, custom pages, PDFs etc ever sync on downloads? I'm just wondering how close to a full mirror one can get if they wanted to download their entire Zenfolio website for safekeeping?

Regardless, I came upon Media Gallery Manager quite by accident searching for 3rd party plug ins after one was mentioned in the main Zenfolio Forum. This is an ambitious project, and deserving of better visibility than it's apparently getting. Thanks!

Hi,

We are experimenting with moving to Zenfolio from another photocart and are very likely to do so. One of our concerns was the ability to bulk upload photos within folders/galleries and maintain the tree structure. Another photographer recommended we look at your uploader and it is almost exactly what we need. I haven't seen any other software that does what yours does.

We shoot schools and create a folder/gallery for each student. To ensure privacy we create a unique access code for each gallery. With our current photocart we can imbed the access code in each folder as a text file along with the jpeg's. The uploader creates the gallery on the photocart and populates it with the jpeg's much like yours does but it also inserts the access code.

Is it possible to add this feature to your program? I think it would be a valuable addition.

I am running Windows Vista on an HP/Intel computer.
MGM is V 1.1-Beta3 (Build 211)

On my first big upload, I started the synchronization, made sure it was uploading correctly, and went to bed.

I started with the default of four concurrent uploads.

In the morning, I noted one upload seem to be “stalled” on a file, just staying there leaving three to continue uploading. Later in the morning, a second one stalled, leaving just two to the upload task. Eventually, a third one stalled and finally, all four stalled. MGM was still running, Java using nearly 100% of the processors, but not uploading anything. “Cancel” seemingly does nothing and the only way out is to close using the “X”, getting the "are you sure" warning popup.

None of the “stalled” files have been uploaded.

Screen shots attached if needed.

All the best,

Hi,

I have a problem when I sync a local folder to Zenfolio. As I have my RAW (NEF) files in a sub folder of my local albums. I do not want the original folder to get synced. I also get a folder named Photos in each album in Zenfolio.

I have organized my files like this:
{CODE()}./YEAR/
  |
   --> MONTH_Some album/
       Photo1.jpg
       Photo2.jpg
       |
        --> original/
            Photo1.NEF
            Photo2.NEF
{CODE}

So a great feature in my case would be if sync could completely ignore folders with a specific name or limit on number of folder levels.
